What is a security number?

twonly uses the Signal Protocol for secure end-to-end encryption. When you first make contact, the public identity key is downloaded from the server. To ensure that this key is the correct one, you should compare it with your friend when you meet in person. As soon as you have verified the user, you can also activate twonly mode when sending pictures and videos.

How can I display a security number?

  1. Open a conversation with a contact.
  2. Tap on the chat header or the shield-icon.
  3. Select “Verify security number”.

How do I check the security number with my contact?

The easiest way to compare security numbers is to scan your contact's QR code (preferably in person). You can also compare the numerical code visually or acoustically or copy it to your clipboard via the share icon to use it in another channel. If the security number is identical, you can be sure that you are communicating with the right person.

To do this, both you and the other person must follow the steps above to display the security number and tap to share or scan the code. You can then tap “Mark as verified” to apply the verification to your side only.

How do I manage the verified status of the security number?

View the security number and tap the “Mark as verified” or “Remove verification” button.
